I've seen it done with PCIe GPUs without destroying them. I'm close to just getting out my Dremel and sawing off the extra pins. At least with the B450 Pro4 Asrock paired its sole Type-C port with a Type-A 3.1 Gen2, unlike the 770 Extreme 3 that paired its sole USB 3.0 port with a blue 2.0 port. The Inateck 7 port card I had on it is what's in my new PC, with the multi card reader connected. It was equipped with ONE USB 3.0 port on the back and no internal USB 3.0 header - but at least there's a huge variety of x1 to 20 pin USB 3.0 header cards. I ran into the same situation with my previous Asrock board, a 770 Extreme 3. Going from PCIe x1 to MiniPCIe to Type-C port to Type-C header just to have a front mounted Type-C port would be stupidly expensive and involve lots of connections to have problems. I think that may be a thing that exists, for people who for some reason want to use an internal style connection literally outside the box. There is ONE manufacturer of a MiniPCIe card with an external style Type-C port, which would require an adapter to the header plug. I tried looking for an M Key PCIe card with a Type-C header. A cable pooching out between the motherboard and the Type-C card would also be real hacky looking.

There are a bajillion x1 to x1 and x1 to x4 and up adapters with a flex cable between (but NO x1 to x2!), and no brackets to hold any of it. Star-Tech makes an x1 to x16, with no bracket and it's overpriced for what it is - "plus" it'd have the long x16 connector hanging out looking silly. What does nobody make? A one piece x1 to x2 riser. Nowhere in the listing did it say it was x2 and the pictures were tiny. I bought what I thought was a PCIe x1 to internal Type-C header card but turns out it's x2. (I connected a 4 port USB 2 slot filler to both the USB 2 headers.) And I've just spent a maddening couple of hours attempting to find some way to mate up the Type-C cable from the EZDIY-FAB box to PCIe x1. It was frustrating enough to find such a beast that used USB 3 for the card reader. I have a EZDIY-FAB USB 3 multi card reader with a USB 3 and a Type-C port. Aside from the real x16 slot (filled with a GTX 1050) all the other slots are PCIe x1.

  • Pick, Assemble and Install: Video Guideįor some reason known only to companies that make the things, there are zero PCIe x1 cards with an *internal* Type-C header, despite there being probably hundreds of variations of PCIe x1 cards with an *external* Type-C port plus internal and/or external Type-A ports.
